Coco chips are the coarse part of the coconut husk — the same coco coir raw material as cocopeat, cut into pieces instead of screened down to pith. They are graded by size, at 8, 15 and 25 mm, because the larger the chip the more air and the faster the drainage, which is why orchid and aroid growers buy them by size rather than by weight. They are also used as stable and kennel bedding, as a slow-rotting mulch, and blended into cocopeat to open up a mix that would otherwise hold too much water.

Specification — washed low-EC material costs more than unwashed, and grade and screen size move with it
Packing — compressed blocks, briquettes, bags, and bulk do not cost the same to make or to load
Volume and continuity — a repeat contract prices better than a single container
